Around 4,000 students and teachers of Qidong Primary School recently gathered to recite classic Chinese literature together.
They read a literary work written by Liang Qichao, a Chinese scholar and reformist (1873-1929), that eulogizes the vitality of youth and demonstrates deep affection for the motherland.
The work was written over 100 years ago, but it is still able to encourage and inspire modern youth.
The idea of reciting Chinese classics was initially put forward by Liang Lei, a teacher at Qidong Primary School, and it later gained broad support among teachers at the school.
All students and teachers at the school participated in the reading activity, which was also supported by students' parents.
Younger students who didn't know all the words in the work were helped by teachers and parents. Liang also noted that several parents phoned her in the evening to check the pronunciations of some words and clarify the meaning of some sentences.
After one month of preparation, students and teachers were able to recite the literary work with oomph and confidence.
