A postdoctoral innovation competition was staged in Nantong in eastern Jiangsu province on Sept 18 -- with 10 local postdoctoral candidates showcasing their latest findings in new materials, new energy, biomedicine and other cutting-edge areas of endeavor.

According to the organizers, the competition aimed to provide a platform for communications between top-skilled professionals and promote the commercialization of research findings.

Officials said the competition has now been held for five consecutive years and has led to the signing of more than 120 cooperation projects between companies and universities.

“The competition will help promote our project,” said Wang Hui from the postdoctoral workstation at Zhongru Group.

She said the results of her research on “the green and intelligent construction of extra-large urban complex” had been used in the construction of Yishan Square built by the company. Her work is expected to save 7 million yuan ($985,600) in costs.

“The local government and the company have provided full support to me, which ensured the smooth progress of my research,” Wang added.

The Nantong government has offered 1.77 million yuan in allowances to new postdoctoral workstations and postdoctoral candidates this year.

The city is currently home to 90 companies with postdoctoral workstations and had identified 28 candidates by the end of August.
