City of Haimen breathes easier, records cleaner air
Residents of Haimen in Nantong, in eastern Jiangsu province, are able to enjoy cleaner air thanks to recent efforts by the local authorities to clean up the city’s environment.
Officials said that in the year to date, the ratio of days with good air quality in Haimen (meeting the national air quality index, or AQI compliance rate) is 75.7 percent. The PM2.5 concentration – measuring particle pollution, also known as particulate matter – average 48 micrograms/cubic meter over the same period.
According to data, the city’s air quality is such that it has retained its third place among at the top of the 54 counties and cities in Jiangsu province.
Local authorities have taken a number of measures to improve the city’s air quality in recent years, with 246 air pollution prevention and control projects initiated during 2018 alone.
Officials said that by the end of the year, a total of 192 projects had been completed.
