The government of Qidong in Jiangsu province signed a cooperation agreement with WuXi AppTec Group, a pharmaceutical enterprise, announcing the establishment of a R&D center in Qidong, on September 25.

It is expected that through the cooperation, Qidong will develop into a health and science and technology hub, and attract more innovative companies and talents to settle there.

In addition, WuXi AppTec Group will also cooperate with hospitals and research institutes in Nantong and Qidong on areas such as liver disease research and biological sample banks.

Li Ge, chief executive officer of WuXi AppTec Group said that the reason to set up the medical center in Qidong is because the city boasts a favorable location, sound industrial foundation and investment environment. Li also hoped that though joint efforts, more innovative medicines can be introduced to the market to benefit patients.

WuXi AppTec Group provides laboratory R&D and production services for global enterprises on pharmaceutical and medical devices. Its operations range from the discovery and development of new drugs, to putting them on the market.
