Tianning Temple
Tianning Temple, located on Zhongxuetang Street in the main district of Nantong, Jiangsu province, was first built in 863. It is a well-preserved Buddhist temple with a long history and large scale. It was once recognized as the best among Tongzhou district’s nine temples, and renowned as a wonder of the state. Remaining buildings are Guangxiao Tower, the mountain gate, Mahavira Hall and others. In May 2006, Tianning Temple was placed in the sixth group of national major historical and cultural protection sites by the State Council.
