The Qidong Cultural and Sports Center in Nantong, Jiangsu province, was bustling with excitement on Oct 18 as nearly 500 cyclists gathered for the 17th Qidong Cycling Invitational.
First launched in 2010 by local cycling enthusiasts, the Qidong Cycling Invitational has developed over more than a decade into a cycling event with growing influence across eastern China.
This year's event featured a 158-kilometer full-distance ride and an 83-km half-distance ride. The course incorporated "On the Xian Road", a scenic highway recognized by the Chinese National Geography magazine that connects several of Qidong's major attractions, including the Binjiang Ecological Green Corridor, Yuantuojiao Resort, Ten-Mile Bay, Qitang City and Lyusi Fishing Port.
The event attracted cycling enthusiasts from Qidong and neighboring areas across Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, as well as international participants.
Among them was a Malaysian Chinese cyclist who was taking part for the fifth time. He noted that the routes improved every year and praised this year's route for its expansive views and beautiful landscapes, allowing riders to experience the unique charm of Qidong's riverside and coastal environment.
