A Chinese New Year painting exhibition was launched at the former residence of Chen Peiting in the Xi'nanying Historical and Cultural Block, Nantong, on Feb 4, marking the start of the upcoming Spring Festival celebrations.

The exhibition showcases New Year paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), featuring themes such as Guan Yu (the Martial Saint), Fu Lu Shou (the gods of fortune, prosperity, and longevity), and elegant court ladies. This initiative aims to rekindle public interest in this traditional folk art and to offer young people the chance to engage with their cultural heritage.

This event is part of the Xi'nanying block's Chinese New Year celebrations. Throughout the Spring Festival, the area will introduce four major themed activities along with a range of daily cultural experiences.

The celebrations in the district run from Feb 4 to March 6. During this period, renowned calligraphers will be invited to display their artistry, and visitors can try their hand at writing their own Spring Festival blessings. Additionally, guests can explore the art of woodblock printing, visit Nantong's historical sites, solve lantern riddles, and enjoy live concerts.

Xi'nanying is among the best-preserved residential areas from the Ming and Qing dynasties in Nantong. Today, it functions as a lively cultural hub that draws in young generations. During the Spring Festival, the district strives to create a traditional festive atmosphere in its historic alleys and support the preservation of cultural traditions.
