Partial lifting of fishing ban brings fresh seafood back to market
After a three-month seasonal fishing moratorium, parts of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea reopened to limited fishing on Aug 5. Within a day or two, the first batch of fishing vessels is expected to bring back fresh catches such as golden mantis shrimp and swimming crabs.
That morning, the Lyusi Fishing Port was abuzz with activity, as 179 vessels of various sizes meeting the "mini fishing season" requirements were moored and ready to set sail.
Before departure, law enforcement officers from the Qidong Coast Guard and local fisheries administration carried out thorough inspections, focusing on firefighting, lifesaving, communications, and navigation equipment to ensure all vessels were properly outfitted and in seaworthy condition.
