2024 Nantong Haimen Marathon kicks off
The 2024 Nantong Haimen Marathon kicked off on Nov 10 amidst light rain, attracting over 10,000 runners for an exciting day of racing.
As a China Athletics Association A1-certified event, it featured three race categories: full marathon, half marathon, and health run.
The 42.20-kilometer course showcased Haimen's unique charm, winding through landmarks such as Jian Gong Lake Ecological Park and the Haimen TV Tower, blending local history, scenic landscapes, and modern city life.
In the full marathon, Ethiopia's Chala Gemechu Tolosa claimed the men's title at 2:15:44. Kenya's Philis Jepkosgeikirop took first place in the women's category, finishing in 2:50:44.
The half marathon was also competitive, with Ethiopia's Aschalew Biru Hunde winning the men's category in 1:05:58 and Kenya's Leah Cheruto securing the women's title in 1:14:41.
Chinese athletes delivered strong performances as well. Wang Jiahao finished third in the men's full marathon with a time of 2:16:31, while Wang Jing placed third in the women's category at 2:55:37. In the women's half marathon, Wang Tian took third place, clocking in at 1:22:37.
Olympic race walking champion Chen Ding and Nantong-born Olympic gymnastics champion Huang Xu were also present, cheering on the runners and adding to the event's excitement.
