On Nov 5, Jiangsu's first island-based substation, the 110 kV power transmission and transformation project at Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone's Yangguang Island in Rudong county, successfully achieved cross-sea power transmission.

Yangguang Island is one of China's largest offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) energy islands, with an annual LNG unloading capacity of 7 million metric tons, and it is currently the largest and most reliable clean energy hub in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. 

The newly operational substation will address the energy needs for an annual turnover of over 20 million metric tons of LNG, ensuring reliable gas supply for both production and residential use in the YRD region, which will significantly contribute to the region's green energy transition and high-quality growth.

The large distance between Yangguang Island and the mainland, combined with constant strong winds and salt spray corrosion, made the construction of the substation particularly challenging. Adhering to the island's height and weight restrictions, customized tools were specially made to ensure timely delivery of materials. 

To ensure a stable power supply, the project laid power cables along bridges to allow for long-distance power transmission to the island. A dual-circuit, 34-kilometer-long cross-sea cable was constructed, enhancing the reliability and flexibility of the power supply.

Furthermore, the substation's power load capacity is four times that of the previous setup and is equipped with intelligent monitoring and unmanned operation systems to reduce the frequency of personnel visits to the island, enhancing safety.
