2024 China National Kite Invitational kicks off in Rudong

From Oct 19 to 20, the 2024 China National Kite Invitational took flight in Rudong, attracting over 30 teams and more than 200 athletes for an exciting display of kite-flying prowess. The event showcased a spectacular array of kite-flyers, executing high-difficulty moves with precision and elegance, providing a stunning sight for spectators.

Liu Jianfeng, vice-president of the Rudong Kite Association, presented a unique local kite known as the "Whistle-Board Hawk", crafted from 127 meticulously-pieced hexagons. He noted, "Located by the coast, Nantong's wind conditions allow the board hawk kite to truly showcase its unique charm, with its whistling sound being particularly crisp and pleasant."

Kites have long been a symbol of traditional Chinese culture, cherished as a sport suitable for all ages. With a history spanning over 2,000 years, kite flying remains a beloved pastime among the populace. Rudong is renowned as a sports hub in China and the birthplace of kite flying. The Rudong Kite Festival has successfully been held 22 times, serving as a platform for kite skill exchange and playing a crucial role in the preservation and promotion of traditional kite culture.
