On the evening of Aug 31 (Beijing time), Chinese cyclist Qian Wangwei won a silver medal in the women's C1-3 500m individual time trial at the Paris Paralympics, becoming the first athlete from Nantong to stand on the podium at the Paris Paralympics.

This marks Qian's second appearance at the Paralympics, and she is set to compete in two more events: the women's C1-3 individual time trial and the C1-3 road race.

Qian was born in Qidong in 1994 and was selected for the Jiangsu provincial para-cycling team due to her exceptional talent. She first made a mark on the international stage at the Tokyo Paralympics on Aug 27, 2021, winning a bronze medal in the same event and breaking the C1 world record.

In late October last year, Qian triumphed at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, winning three gold medals in the women's C1-3 3,000m individual pursuit, 500m time trial, and road cycling individual time trial, solidifying her status as Nantong's fourth Asian Para Games champion.

Earlier this year, in late March, Qian dominated the 2024 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, securing gold in four events: the 3,000m individual pursuit, 500m time trial, scratch race, and omnium.
