The 1,000th intelligent garbage recycling machine was put into use in the Xinghai Huayuan Community in Nantong, Jiangsu province, on Aug 26 to assist garbage sorting.

Local residents are required to deposit their disposable waste into the machine. The machine will then automatically weigh the garbage and transfer the corresponding funds to the residents' accounts.

"The cardboard, empty bottles, newspapers, and other recyclables we've saved can be put into the machine," said Gu Peiyu, a resident of the Xinghai Huayuan Community. "It's quite simple to use."

All the recyclables are set to be then transported to the sorting plants. Some are poised to be processed at plants, and the remaining are intended to be directly sold to other buyers.

To date, the intelligent garbage recycling machines have benefited over 490,000 citizens in Nantong and recycled 32,400 metric tons of garbage.
