Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province, recently pioneered an environmentally-friendly invitation-based health checkup service, encouraging businesses to proactively voice their environmental needs and challenges.

Jiangsu Hongde Special Parts Corporation was among the first group of companies to request an invitation-based health checkup since Tongzhou's ecological environment bureau introduced the initiative.

"Our company is located close to residential areas, and with outdated pollution control processes, and the efficiency of exhaust gas collection and treatment is relatively low. While we meet national standards, meeting community expectations has been a challenge, with frequent complaints about air pollution over the years," explained company representative Wang Jinman. According to Wang, the company has invested over 10 million yuan ($1.40 million) to upgrade its processes and equipment.

After proactively applying for the invitation-based health checkup, the company underwent an inspection and had its previous rectification measures approved by the environmental department. It also received assistance in identifying weak points in environmental management to better address issues related to air pollution. With the support of the Tongzhou ecological environment bureau, the company successfully secured 3.42 million yuan in special funds for central atmospheric pollution prevention.

Since the announcement of the invitation-based health checkup service, the Tongzhou Ecological Environment Bureau has received and conducted 22 invitation-based health checkups, identifying 130 general environmental issues. The inspected units have been guided to make improvements accordingly.
