Qidong unveils new policies to boost innovation

The government of Qidong in Nantong, Jiangsu province hosted a press conference on March 14 to interpret its new policies regarding scientific and technological innovation.
The policies total 20 articles and involve various measures. Among the key provisions are support for enterprises in technological breakthroughs and the introduction of high-tech projects. Additionally, there are initiatives to encourage universities, colleges, and major research institutes in Qidong to establish research and development platforms in collaboration with leading enterprises. The policies also advocate for the establishment of key laboratories by enterprises and the fostering of domestic and foreign scientific talent.
The policies extend their support to various fields, including modern agriculture, biomedicine, green and low-carbon technologies, and ecological conservation.
In the previous year, Qidong's research and development expenditures as a percentage of regional gross domestic product (GDP) reached 2.74 percent. This year, Qidong aims to further enhance its technological prowess, striving to increase the ratio to 2.8 percent.
The city also aims to raise the proportion of the output value of high-tech industries to 56.5 percent in an effort to better leverage technological innovation to support high-quality economic and social development.
