Three bookcrossing stations from the Overseas Chinese Library based in Nantong, Jiangsu province will make their debut in Indonesia, as the library recently signed cooperation agreements with Indonesian schools online.
While Indonesia is home to the world's largest number of overseas Chinese people, the country is quite short of Chinese teachers and textbooks.
Nantong natives have made tremendous contributions to Chinese education in Indonesia. Educators from the city, including Li Chunming, have worked as teachers in the country. Li also founded Jakarta Chinese High School, which was praised by UNESCO as the top Chinese school in the Far East.
With the help of a local Chinese education institution, the Overseas Chinese Library forged collaborative relations with three trilingual schools in Indonesia, and will offer 300 Chinese books to each free of charge. Most of these books were donated by primary and secondary school students in Nantong.
Since the first bookcrossing stations were established in 2021, the Overseas Chinese Library has built 110 such stations in nearly 50 countries. To date, the Nantong library has collected and distributed over 30,000 books to the bookcrossing stations.
