Nantong Museum showcases work of renowned local painters

The artworks of three renowned painters from the Qian family in Nantong, Jiangsu province, are on display until Jan 18 at the third temporary exhibition hosted by the Nantong Museum.
The three Qian family members–Qian Qiu, Qian Ying, and Qian Shu–lived during the reigns of emperors Qianlong (1711-99) and Daoguang (1821-50) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Adept at landscape paintings, the trio were prominent representatives of the genre in Nantong. They were collectively known as Tongzhou San Qian, or the three Qian family members of Nantong.

The exhibition showcases nearly 40 pieces of their works. Alongside their masterful mountains-and-waters paintings, the exhibition highlights figure and bird-and-flower paintings created by Qian Qiu and Qian Shu.

Compared to the 2018 exhibition with a similar theme, this year's event enables audiences to appreciate and interpret the trio's captivating techniques while learning about the profound influence they have had on local culture and art creation.
