At Jiangsu Huazi Energy Engineering Co Ltd located in Qidong, workers have recently been busy building four liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) storage tanks.
The company built four tanks for two LCO2 transport ships. Each ship will install two tanks, each tank weighing more than 530 metric tons, being 40.64 meters long and 11.4 meters in diameter, and capable of storing 3,750 cubic meters of liquid carbon dioxide.
Huazi Energy partnered with Norway's Northern Lights company last year to carry out the project. Northern Lights builds the world's largest LCO2 transport ships, which can carry carbon dioxide captured from various sources to liquefied storage facilities for sequestration or reuse.
The tanks produced by Huazi Energy have new standards and are the world's first products of their kind. Under normal circumstances, the lowest temperature requirement for the tank is -20 C, while the lowest temperature requirement for the four tanks built this time is -35 C.
The company's technical team spent nearly a year on research and development, solving technical problems such as steel plate testing and welding material matching.
