The results of the 2023 academicians' election of the two academies were officially announced on Nov 22. Fifty-nine people were elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 74 people were elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Zhou Chuangbing, a hydraulic rock mechanics expert from Qidong, was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Zhou is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Nanchang University and the director of the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Basin Carbon Neutrality.

His research focuses on complex rock mass multi-field generalized coupling theory and engineering application, rock high slope stability control and seepage control of water conservancy and hydropower engineering.

Zhou created the "one theory and two technologies" of hydraulic rock mass seepage and deformation coordinated control, which have been applied in more than 40 water conservancy and hydropower projects, including the Baihetan Hydropower Station, Jinping Hydropower Station, Xiluodu Hydropower Station and Three Gorges Water Conservancy Hub Project.
