Golden Chrysanthemums bloom for prosperity

Updated: 2023-11-15

Yizhamen village in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province, is celebrating a harvest of the Golden Chrysanthemums.

Renowned as the king of Chrysanthemums, the Golden Chrysanthemum has become a key industry in the village.

In 2017, the village initiated a trial cultivation of 10 mu (0.67 hectares) of Golden Chrysanthemums and introduced four drying machines and two refrigeration warehouses after learning from the industrial experience of Wuxi.

Following successful trials, villagers found that the climate and soil conditions in the village were conducive to the growth of this flower. They thus expanded the cultivation area year by year.

The village is currently home to 80 mu of cultivation area for Golden Chrysanthemums and is expected to produce 100,000 kilograms of fresh flowers this year.

This year, the village also invested 320,000 yuan ($44,218) in eight drying machines and allocated 350,000 yuan for the renovation of the drying center.

The cultivation of Golden Chrysanthemums involves planting, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, and processing, requiring labor at each step. As a result, in addition to enhancing the village's environment, Golden Chrysanthemum cultivation has boosted the incomes of locals and neighboring villagers.

To expand its market reach, the village registered the trademark "Ben Ju" for its local Golden Chrysanthemum. In recent years, the village's Golden Chrysanthemums have been sold through channels like exhibitions, WeChat, and beyond the local market, reaching customers in Anhui province, Jiangxi province, and other regions.
