Expats dip into Nantong culture

Ten expats from six countries, including Morocco, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, recently visited the Binjiang area in Chongchuan district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, to experience traditional Chinese culture.

Their first stop was the Plum Forest on Ma'an Mountain where they were guided by a local calligraphy enthusiast to try the art. Then, they went to the Lanjiang greenway to witness Nantong's remarkable achievements in restoring and protecting the natural environment in the Binjiang area.

They were then attracted by the bustling fair themed on traditional Chinese culture and featuring a tea ceremony, traditional Chinese painting, paper tearing, sugar painting, and straw plaited articles.

Ben Elbaida Wissal, who is studying at Nantong University, said, "It never occurred to me that a piece of paper can be turned into a picture after being torn by hands. Chinese culture is so magical."

The expats also appreciated a hanfu show and watched folding fans being made by students from the college of fine arts at Nantong University.
