The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) in East China's Jiangsu province has in recent years been ramping up efforts to advance scientific and technological innovation.

For example, authorities have been channeling more resources into building innovation platforms revolving around industries such as new-generation information technology, high-end equipment, biomedicine, and new energy.

Two hundred innovation projects have over the past two years been launched on these platforms, and 10 companies were shortlisted as "little giant" enterprises this year, with the number of invention patents per 10,000 people being 89.86.

The local government has also implemented a raft of measures, including dispatching recruitment staff s to countries such as Japan and Germany and hosting activities such as roadshows and engagement meetings to attract more high-caliber talent and innovation projects.

The area has held eight roadshows this year, and 10,000 professionals and 130 innovation projects have been secured.

Authorities have also taken a series of actions, such as establishing the National Library Nantong Information Center and a one-stop government service center, to provide better services to entrepreneurs pursuing innovation.

In addition, a 5-billion-yuan ($683.92 million) industry fund and a 2-billion-yuan special fund have been established to provide financial support to innovation companies.
