Young Rugao athletes shine at national U16 athletics championships

At the 2023 National U16 Athletics Championships recently held in Wuhu, Anhui province, young athletes from the Rugao national athletics single-event talent base won three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.

They secured 6th place in the women's team event and 7th place in the men's team event in terms of total team score.

Wei Youkang, with a throw of 61.68 meters, claimed first place in the men's javelin throw. Wei Cong, with a throw of 18.72 meters, clinched gold in the men's rotation shot put. Wang Yuxin, with a throw of 15.82 meters, emerged victorious in the women's rotation shot put.

The 2023 National U16 Athletics Championships is the most prestigious competition among the China Athletics Association's youth events (Class II).

The competition lasted for two days and included various events for both men and women, such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 110m/100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 2,000m steeplechase, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, triple jump, javelin throw, shot put, discus throw, and hammer throw.

A total of 46 teams from provincial sports units and national athletics single-event reserve talent bases across the country, comprising over 500 participants, took part in the competition.
