Qidong girl wins gold at Chengdu FISU Games

Xu Nuo, a fencing star from Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong, won the women's epee team gold medal at the Chengdu FISU World University Games on Aug 5.
Xu and her teammates defeated 31 other teams, including the third seed US team, and achieved the first podium finish for Nantong athletes at the event.
Xu is a student at Tsinghua University and a member of the national team.
She studied at Jiangsu Qidong Experimental Primary School from 2004 to 2010. Her head teacher Fan Ying said that Xu Nuo was diligent and didn't give up easily.
Xu first started fencing at Nantong Sports School in 2010. Her coach, Wu Juan, said she had a strong sense of rhythm with swords, which made her stand out in fencing.
Four years ago, Xu participated in the last FISU World University Games and won the Universiade gold medal for the first time.
As a rising fencing star in China, Xu has won many medals in various competitions. In 2017, she won the team championship in Women's Epee at the Asian Fencing Championships. She and three teammates finished as team runners-up at the 2022 FIE Women's Epee World Cup in Poland.
