Caoyuxing, a time-honored brand in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, made an appearance at the ongoing fifth China International Import Expo, which is held from Nov 5 to 10 in Shanghai.

Caoyuxing showcased more than 20 varieties of blue calico products, including scarves, handbags, and notebooks, at its CIIE booth.

"We have received many people who are interested in the Nantong blue calico dyeing craft and relevant products at the expo," said Jiang Rong, the fifth inheritor of the Caoyuxing Dyehouse.

Caoyuxing has learned to make ancient blue calico adapt to the demands of new generations and has created some products that are popular among young people, noted Jiang.

He also said that he hopes to familiarize more people with Nantong blue calico so that they can learn more about Nantong culture through the traditional craft.

The Nantong blue calico dyeing craft was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item in 2016. Blue calico, which was once used by people across China, features blue cloth with patterns in white and white cloth with patterns in blue.

Nantong is currently home to six national time-honored brands, 16 provincial-level time-honored brands, and 42 municipal-level time-honored brands, more than 40 of which are on display at the Jiangsu Pavilion via the digital CIIE platform.
