Eight expats from different countries, including Yemen, Afghanistan, Mexico, Pakistan, and Morocco, visited the Nantong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Sept 22.
They were impressed by the exquisite exhibits, including blue calico, banyao kites, and simulation embroidery.

Leo, a Mexican student from Nantong University, showed interest in banyao kite making and tried to make the kite himself by learning from a skilled kite maker at the museum.
"It looks so easy to make the kite; however, when I made it by myself, I found it's so complicated and it took me a long time to make a knot," said Leo.

Banyao kites are large and flat whistling kites with hexagonal frames adorned with exquisite decorations and vibrant colors. They are unique in that they make a melodious sound when high up in the sky. In 2006, banyao kite making techniques in Nantong were listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item.
The expats will visit Zilang Lake, Zilang Flower Valley, the Nantong Innovation District Planning Hall, and the Peking University-Yangtze Delta Institute of Optoelectronics in Nantong over the following days.
