​6 Rugao works shortlisted for exhibition of intangible cultural heritage works

Six Rugao works were shortlisted for a Jiangsu intangible cultural heritage works exhibition, and two exhibits won awards, local media reported on Sept 9.

The exhibition was held to celebrate the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China through intangible cultural heritage works collected from all parts of society in Jiangsu province.

The silk carpet wall hanging "Shuihui Garden" won a technological award. It is based on the scenery of Shuihui Garden in Rugao. Wild pressed silk was used to make the carpet. It was woven using a hand knotting process. More than 150 kinds of mixed silk made up 330,000 handmade knots, forming points, lines and surfaces on the carpet.

The dough sculptures "Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk" won an excellent work award. The sculpture is based on Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk, one of the 10 most famous paintings in China. The dough sculpture vividly shows the ladies tamping, ironing and sewing in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
