Qidong sees strong summer grain harvest

Grain crops in Qidong, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, reached 440,700 mu (29,380 hectares) this year, an increase of 600 mu over last year, according to the Qidong agriculture and rural affairs bureau.

The total output was 99,697 metric tons, an increase of more than 3,700 tons over the previous year. The areas for summer grain and beans were 198,000 mu and 250,000 mu, respectively.

In recent years, the city has issued subsidies for grain production for over an area of 388,700 mu, with the amount of subsidies reaching 13.99 million yuan ($2.05 million).

Meanwhile, the amount of subsidies for purchasing agricultural machinery reached 603,800 yuan, benefiting 271 agricultural business entities.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, 485,000 mu of well-facilitated farmland finished construction in the city, and this year construction has started on 25,000 mu of well-facilitated farmland.
