Tongzhou district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has been steadily improving its transportation network since 2012 when the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held.

From 2012 to 2021, Tongzhou had built around 150 kilometers of roads, including over 70 km of expressways, bringing the total length of roads in the district to 3469.36 kilometers and the density of roads to 200 kilometers per 100 square kilometers.

In addition, the construction of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway and the Yancheng-Nantong High-Speed Railway has ushered the district into the age of high-speed rail.

The eastern extension part of Jianghai Road, which was opened to traffic on July 18, has also greatly increased connectivity between Nantong's central urban areas with Tongzhou.

Nantong's subway line 1, which starts from Pingchao Town in Tongzhou, is expected to improve the district's traffic conditions when completed.
