Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province was recently shortlisted as one of the Chinese cities deemed most attractive to foreign talent at the annual Amazing China 2022 – The Most Attractive Chinese Cities for Foreigners selection event.
The event, initiated in 2010, is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and aimed at showcasing the efforts and achievements of Chinese cities in attracting foreign talent.
The jury consists of Nobel laureates, winners of the Chinese Government Friendship Award – the highest honor the country bestows on foreigners for their contributions to China's development – and other high-level foreign experts.
Candidates for the selection will be assessed based on favorable policies, administrative services, and the working, living, and innovation environment for foreign talent.
The Nantong municipal bureau of science and technology has long attached heavy importance to the introduction of high-profile foreign talent.
Since 2021, the bureau has taken various measures, including setting up a special fund for bringing in foreign experts, to attract more technological talent and foreign experts.
It has also organized various activities to promote Nantong, improve the city's international profile, and get more foreigners interested in the city.
