The Nantong Museum in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, held an exhibition on April 2 to commemorate artist Kang Ping (1922-2007).
Fifty paintings created by Kang are on display at the exhibition.
Born in Nantong, Kang was a renowned painter, calligrapher, and art educator in China and many of his works have been collected by art enthusiasts in Russia, Japan, Germany, and Singapore.
In 1954, Kang was assigned to build the first provincial art museum in Jiangsu and during his work as curator, the Jiangsu Art Exhibition Hall, precursor to the Jiangsu Art Museum, collected more than 500 artworks from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1911) and received delegations from dozens of countries, including France, the United States and the United Kingdom.
In addition, Kang organized a series of exhibitions on Chinese paintings and academic seminars, laying a solid foundation for the development of art in Jiangsu and China.
