Qidong – a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – has a masterplan to create something special along its coastline, having pull together and released the Jiangsu Coastal Area Development Plan (2021-25) in February.
Under the plan, by 2025 Qidong's gross domestic product is projected to account for at least 2.5 percent of the province's total GDP, while the output value of the city's maritime economy is expected to contribute 7.5 percent of the total for Jiangsu province.
Moreover, Qidong aims to transform itself into being the new growth springboard for high-quality coastal development in the Nantong region.
The blueprint envisages that Qidong will accelerate the construction of the Lyusi port area. Enjoying the competitive advantages of great port resources and its proximity to Shanghai, Qidong is said to have targeted attracting more high-end manufacturing industries, and seizing the opportunities brought about by enterprises moving from southern Jiangsu.
Efforts will also be made to turn the city's 178-kilometer coastline into a model for other green coastal landscape belts.
