Bing Dwen Dwen, a cute mascot for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, has been selling like hotcakes ever since the opening of the Winter Olympics on Feb 4.
Qidong-based Nantong Golden Phoenix Toy Manufacturing Co Ltd is one of three toymakers in China to produce stuffed toy versions of the mascots of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon.
Once the designs of the mascots were made final in 2019, the organizing committee of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics invited Golden Phoenix to produce stuffed toy versions.

With a wealth of experience in toy manufacturing, the Qidong company had manufactured dozens of models based on the designs before the products received recognition from the organizing committee.
According to Yuan Yinghui, deputy general manager of Golden Phoenix, the company delivered about 50,000 sets of Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon before the Spring Festival holiday began and it is scheduled to resume operations on Feb 8.
Bing Dwen Dwen is a panda in an icy coat resembling sugar-coated haws, a popular local snack, while Paralympics mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon resembles a red lantern, symbolizing warmth, friendship and the resilience of disabled athletes.
The company has participated in the production of mascots for many big events, including Fuwa, mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Hypon, mascot of the Expo 2010 Shanghai, noted Yuan.
