The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, or CAICT – a scientific research institute directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology – on Dec 16 released the 2021 list of China's top 100 industrial counties and county-level cities.

The prefecture-level city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province saw all four of its county level administrative regions included onto the list. Hai'an, a county-level city, was placed 20th, the highest among Nantong's regions.

In recent years, the city has developed a raft of characteristic industry clusters. Its annual yield of nylon yarn accounts for one eighth of the country's total, while its output of silk quilts, raw silk and yarn-dyed fabric is the highest nation-wide.

New materials, equipment manufacturing, automobiles and rail transit, energy conservation and environment protection, modern furniture and other sectors are developing rapidly, supporting Hai'an's high-quality development.

In the first 10 months of the current year, the industrial yield in Hai'an is understood to have shown robust growth momentum, with output value above a designated size up 27.8 percent year-on-year.

Industrial added value above a designated size – those with annual turnover of 20 million yuan ($3.14 million) or more – showed 17.2 percent growth over the same period last year.

Hai'an is also making concerted efforts to cultivate its so-called little giant enterprises – the term referring to outstanding high-tech small and medium-sized businesses with high growth potential, advanced technology and a strong competitive edge.

Jiangsu Eagle-Globe Group Co Ltd, Jiangsu Xinghua Rubber Belt Co Ltd, Jiangsu EMT New Material Co Ltd and Nantong Changrong Mechanical and Electrical Co Ltd, were recognized as national little giant enterprises. There are currently seven provincial little giant enterprises based in the city.
