Rudong county in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has been encouraging enterprises to set up smart workshops and model plants for intelligent manufacturing in recent years to promote improvements in the quality and efficiency of the industrial system and realize high-quality economic development.

Nantong Hanvo New Material Technology Co Ltd, based in Rudong county, has introduced advanced digital management systems such as enterprise resource planning and manufacturing execution systems into its production workshops to realize the automation of production equipment integrating warehousing, logistics, intelligent production and quality inspection.

Charoen Pokphand Aquatic Products (Nantong) Co Ltd has adopted digital management and control systems in its workshops, reducing the size of the labor force and realizing traceability across the whole production process.

"We started drawing up a three-year action plan to foster smart workshops the year before last," said Cao Aiming, deputy director of the Rudong development and reform commission. "We classified the key enterprises in the county and helped them accelerate the construction of smart workshops and plants to improve the quality and efficiency of industrial development."

At the beginning of the current year, Rudong rolled out 30 new policies to support the innovative development of manufacturing and clarified rewards and subsidies for intelligent upgrading and digital transformation of industries.
