More than 400 blue calico makers trained in Nantong

A month-long training class consisting of 30 trainees from all across China on blue calico, a traditional textile in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, concluded on Nov 23.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the training class invited experts from the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Nanjing University, as well as other renowned universities to give lessons.

In addition to teaching theory, the training class also invited Wu Yuanxin, head of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute of Nantong University, as well as national and provincial inheritors of Nantong's blue calico to teach the 30 trainees how to properly make blue calico.

Initiated in 2017, nine editions of the blue calico training class have been organized, training more than 400 blue calico inheritors from nearly 20 provinces and autonomous regions.
