As the weather becomes colder, acer palmatum, sycamore, ginkgo and other deciduous trees in the grounds of the Nantong Museum – in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – have changed appearance, lending rich color to the place and catching the delighted eyes of many enthusiasts, keen to take photographs of the visual spectacle. Nantong Museum, located in the city's Chongchuan district, was founded in 1905 by Zhang Jian, a local industrial magnate and scholar. It is perhaps less well known that the museum was originally set up as a public botanical garden, according to Ju Weidong, a plant and animal specialist who worked in the museum for 35 years and who only retired in July last year. The graceful acer palmatum tree belongs to the aceraceae species, also called the maple family, which soak up the sunlight. With their leaves turning bright red in autumn, the rich hue is immensely appealing. [Photo/ntfabu.com]
