To contribute to the country's pledge to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, Rudong county, administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, has made efforts to develop its clean energy industry, including liquefied natural gas, by making use of its location, resources, and industrial base.
It has introduced four major energy projects on the 3-square-kilometer Yangguang Island – three LNG terminals and an LNG storage and peak shaving project – aimed at building the island into a global leader in LNG receiving and unloading, storage, supply and marketing.
The PetroChina Jiangsu LNG terminal has six storage tanks with a total tank capacity of 1.08 million cubic meters and is able to receive and unload 10 million tons of LNG a year. It has received and unloaded 480 vessels carrying a total of 39 million tons of LNG from 25 countries and regions since it began operating 10 years ago.
The Jiangsu LNG storage and peak shaving project will house three 200,000-cu-m storage tanks. Its maximum single-day gasification export volume will be 30 million cu m.
In addition to expanding the scale of its LNG industry, Rudong will also place emphasis on downstream and supporting industries of LNG, such as cold energy utilization, natural gas power generation and equipment manufacturing during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) in an effort to develop into a national model for green energy.
