Dragon boat teams from the Chongchuan district of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province took home one silver and two bronze medals at the amateurs finals of China's 14th National Games – held in Wenzhou city in East China's Zhejiang province on Sept 22-25.
Wenzhou, as the co-host city of this year's National Games, saw 20 men's dragon boat teams and 20 women's teams from around the country do battle in over four days of fierce competition.
In the mixed 100-meter straight category for 12-person dragon boats on Sept 23, the Chongchuan district team on behalf of Jiangsu clocked 28.311 seconds to finish third.
The great result bolstered confidence and spurred the teams on – clinching them a silver medal in the women's 200 m and another bronze medal in men's 200 m the following day.
In their last competition – the mixed 200 m race – they crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 54.425 seconds.
The coach Liu Weiwei was jubilant with the score card.
"This is the first time our Nantong dragon boat team has participated in the National Games," he said.
"The team members were able to withstand the pressure to achieve great results, which will bring new opportunities for the development of the dragon boat sport in Nantong in the future."
