Nantong city's Haohe River scenic area has developed a noticeably fresh look of late – after a raft of upgrades and transformations involving greening, revamped roads, night lighting and improvements to the water environment.

Now, according to the Nantong municipal and garden bureau, a new landscape improvement project for Zhonggongyuan Park (Middle Park) – located in the Haohe River scenic area in the Chongchuan district of Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province – will kick off.

The work, which will start at the end of August and be completed by May 2022, will enhance the park, which is situated at No 19 Haonan Road in Chongchuan and currently serves as the Nantong Children's Palace.

"The landscape improvement project will focus on exploring the historical and cultural connotations of the park," said Lu Jianming, deputy head of the administrative office of the Haohe River scenic area.

"On the basis of retaining the function of children's education and training, the project will also pay attention to protecting ancient trees and developing leisure tourism."

After completion, the Zhonggongyuan Park is expected to add renewed vitality and charm to the Haohe River scenic area.
