Founded in 1911 by Zhang Jian, a local industrial magnate and scholar, the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University – located in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – is a provincial comprehensive teaching hospital and a medical care center for the northern area of the Yangtze River Delta region.

It was recognized as a 3A-grade hospital in 1994 and identified as one of the international emergency rescue centers in 1998 by the then Ministry of Health. Situated alongside the Haohe River, it has a beautiful environment, advanced equipment and 2,210 beds. The hospital is on a site covering 96,667 square meters and its buildings have a floor space of 238,000 sq m. A new campus, which will have 2,500 beds and floor space of 186,667 sq m, is under construction and is set to start operating at the end of 2023.

The hospital's clinical medicine is recognized as a key discipline in Jiangsu province. The department of hand surgery at the hospital is also a clinical medical research center of Jiangsu province. The departments of hand surgery, medical laboratory, hematology and ophthalmology are key medical disciplines of Jiangsu province. It also has 30 provincial clinical key specialties.
