A reevesia pubescens tree at Nantong Vocational College of Science and Technology recently started bearing fruit, local media outlets reported.

It is the only reevesia pubescens tree in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province and has borne fruit for the first time in the past 31 years since it was planted.

Reevesia pubescens trees, which usually grow in South Asia, as well as Fujian and Taiwan, are seldom seen in the Yangtze River Delta region. According to records, none of the few plants in the region have ever reportedly borne fruit.

The one in Nantong was planted 31 years ago by school teachers as part of an experiment. In May, it bloomed for the second time ever, with the white flowers covering the tree like snow.
