The new East Furniture Makerspace, located in the county-level city of Hai'an – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – officially opened its doors for business on April 9, reportedly providing an invaluable new facility for furniture entrepreneurs in the region.

Broadly speaking, makerspaces are widely viewed an important part of the innovation and entrepreneurship incubation chain, making them of great significance in comprehensively improving the capability and level of incubation services.

The new makerspace, which is located in the East Furniture materials market, covers 3,250 square meters and can accommodate 25 enterprises.

Focusing on design, releases and the promotion of new products as well as e-commerce and other fields, the makerspace is said to be committed to building a service system that integrates both online and offline channels for e-commerce furniture companies.

Resident businesses will have access to comprehensive professional services for project refinements, resource integration, tax registration, business registration, human resources, patent applications, legal support and small-scale financing.

So far, a number of enterprises have settled there, including Daka Furniture Co Ltd, Amy Design & Consultants Co Ltd and Weiye Sponge Product (Hai'an) Co Ltd.

The opening of the makerspace has reportedly injected vitality into the development of Hai'an's furniture industry. Additionally, it is seen as being of great significance in promoting the digital transformation of the modern furniture industry and for boosting the popularity and influence of furniture brands in Hai'an.

Players in the sector are optimistic about its impact.

"Moving forwards, the makerspace will further improve the development of a sharing platform and enhance its capability to provide services. Eligible furniture enterprises are welcome to come and settle in," said He Zhongmei, manager of the investment promotions department of East Furniture Material Market Hai'an Co Ltd.

"We will build a business incubator and maker platform for innovation and entrepreneurship, which has flexible mechanisms, complete functions and supporting facilities," He added.
