Shixi village in Baidian town in Hai'an – a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – has a lively and proactive volunteer service team composed of elderly members of the Communist Party of China, whose average age is over 70.

Founded in 2017, the team doggedly removes aquatic weeds and floating trash in the local rivers and ditches.

In addition to cleaning the waterways, the seniors also advise the farmers of Shixi on the best methods and benefits of garbage sorting, helping them improve their awareness of its positive impact on the environment.
