A painting exhibition opened at the culture and art center of Chongchuan district in Nantong on March 8 to mark International Women's Day.

On display are 56 works recently produced by 28 local women, including art teachers from higher learning, as well as middle and primary schools, professionals from cultural institutes, and a few amateur artists.

The paintings feature natural landscapes, flowers, birds, and portraits in diverse forms, including traditional Chinese paintings, wood-block prints, oil paintings, watercolors, as well as lacquer paintings.

Experts said that the paintings integrate traditional skills with modern innovation.

Such exhibitions have been held annually around International Women's Day for 10 years. This year's event will run until March 18.
