A key laboratory for tissue engineering technology product research and evaluation initiated by Nantong University – located in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – has been approved for construction by the National Medical Products Administration.

It reportedly will be the only laboratory of its kind to make it into the second batch of China's proposed new key laboratories. Experts reviewed recommendations, held online Q&A sessions, organized on-site inspections and conducted comprehensive reviews before finalizing the list.

According to the university, Gu Xiaosong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will serve as director of the laboratory and the position of academic committee director will be held by academician Wang Junzhi.

They will lead a team in the construction and application of nerve tissue engineering, research into nerve tissue engineering evaluations and testing standard systems, as well as research into clinical norms for nerve tissue engineering.

Some 71 other key laboratories on the new list cover multiple categories such as drugs, medical devices and cosmetics

Their research mainly focuses on the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, pharmaceutical innovation and R&D, key product supervision and emergency response capabilities. These facilities aim to provide new technical support for drug regulation and the development of the pharmaceuticals industry.
