Construction of the preliminary port of Tongzhou Bay area in Nantong is progressing smoothly, local media outlets reported.

The 4.6-billion-yuan port is being built in accordance with world-class standards and will comprise four 10-tonnage general berths stretching 1,368 meters and supporting facilities.

The port will be seamlessly connected with inland rivers, railways and highways to form a comprehensive transportation network.

Upon completion in late 2021, the port will become a new window for opening-up in the Yangtze River Delta region and a new river-ocean transportation hub along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, officials said.
