The China Container Industry Association (CCIA) held a national members congress in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Dec 18. Advanced units and individuals who made contributions to China's container industry in 2020 were commended at the meeting.
Dong Fang International Container (Qidong) Co Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO Shipping, was recognized by the CCIA as a unit that made contributions to work resumption amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In recent years, the company has actively participated in the development of markets in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, especially focusing on technological innovation. Its product category has developed from the single twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) to special containers that are environmentally friendly, antifouling or explosion-proof. The annual production capacity has risen from 200,000 TEUs to 320,000 TEUs, over 80 percent of which are exported.
Facing the precipitate COVID-19 pandemic, the company rapidly recruited more than 1,000 employees through expanding recruitment channels, old employees teaching new ones and other measures, nearly 400 of whom were enrolled amid the epidemic through the new method of online recruitment.
The company resumed normal production and operations in the shortest possible time.
