To inherit and promote folk culture, the Haodong community Party committee in Chengdong sub-district, Chongchuan district, the disabled persons' federation, together with students from Nantong Middle School, carried out paper-cutting activities on Dec 20.

Cao Jianhui, a paper-cutting expert from the community talent tank, was invited to the activity. Though disabled, Cao has won many awards at national, provincial and municipal levels with her paper-cutting skills. After retiring, she has created many new works and volunteers to teach residents and teenagers paper-cutting skills.

During the activity, Cao explained in detail paper-cutting culture and skills to the students, who were experiencing paper-cutting for the first time. Under Cao's patient guidance, everyone learned how to cut out the vivid characters of "春" which means spring in Chinese. Cao also taught the students to make paper-cuts for window decoration.

"Through this activity, I now understand that paper-cutting is the same as other learning. You need to concentrate, and finally you can cut out the perfect pattern," said Zhang Liqin, a student who participated in the activity.

The students all thought the activity meaningful, not only helping them learn paper-cutting skills, enrich their amateur cultural lives, but also experience the fun of paper-cutting and the charm of folk art.
