Over 50 fourth grade students from Tangzha Primary School attended a special class in the movable-type printing museum in Chongchuan district, Nantong, on Nov 12.
The pupils could not wait to enjoy the charm of the old movable-type printing technique in action after the printing museum staff member's fascinating explanation of the process. Three students had practical experience when they worked together to print a San Zi Jing, or Three Character Classic.
"I now understand movable-type printing a lot more after today's activity," said Yuan Yuxiang, from class 5 grade 4. "I printed a Tang poem, and though it was a little fuzzy, it was fun to do."
Zhu Feng, director of moral education at Tangzha Primary School said: "Tangzha Ancient Town Protection and Development company told me that they had a similar first-hand experience at the museum. Considering that the fourth grade students studied some texts about movable-type printing last semester, we planned a trip there and the students enjoyed it."
To improve the museum-school cooperation and promote the integration of museum resources with education, the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage jointly issued the Opinions on Using Museum Resources to Carry out Education and Teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools.
Tangzha ancient town has several historic buildings and cultural experience items that are qualified to participate in museum-school cooperation. The town's protection and development company will boost the connections between cultural and museum resources and education needs, to carry out cooperation with more schools.
